The Sivagiri Mutt is dedicated to Sree Narayana who worked selflessly for the upliftment of the Kerala society. He fought against the caste supremacy and the outlook of caste Hindus, as well as untouchability and religious fanaticism practiced by them. Hence atop the Varkala Hill in Sivagiri is situated a mutt dedicated to Sree Narayana, adjacent to the Sharada Temple.
The Sivagiri Mutt is thronged by visitors on Guru Deva Jayanti, the birthday of the Guru, and the Samadhi day that are befittingly celebrated in August and September respectively every year. On these days colourful processions, seminars, public meetings, cultural shows, community feasts and special rituals are held.
